Bay City, Mich. -- Tiffin University sophomore Bleu George was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golf "Athlete of the Week" for his performance at the University of Indianapolis Invitational.

Tiffin University sophomore Bleu George helped Dragons to a sixth-place finish at the par-72, 7,106-yard University of Indianapolis Invitational held at the The Links at Heartland Crossing in Camby, Ind. George posted a three-round total of even-par 216 (75-70-71), placing second at the event, just eight strokes behind the medallist. He led the Dragons who recorded team rounds of 311, 298, and 295 for a 904 (+40) total, finishing 34 strokes behind the team champion Indianapolis.

Ferris State - Ferris State
shot a 10-over-par 874 team score to claim second place at the
Indianapolis Invitational (Sept. 15-16), which was held at the par
72, 7,106-yard The Links at Heartland Crossing Golf Course in
Camby, Ind. The Bulldogs turned in a 288 score in Tuesday's (Sept.
16) final-round play after compiling rounds of 288 and 298 in
Monday's (Sept. 15) action. FSU ended up four strokes behind
tournament champion and host Indianapolis (870 total strokes, +6),
which paced the 14-team field with a six-over-par 870 score in the
54-hole event... Junior Kurt Valley (Bay City/Western) carded a 218
(74-74-70=218, +2) en route to a team-leading fourth-place finish.
Senior Kelbi Lee (Billings, Mont.) tied for sixth place after
producing a 220-stroke total (70-74-76=220, +4). Junior Eric
Lilleboe (Okemos/Lansing Catholic Central) along with sophomore Joe
Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) produced 221 score to tie for
eighth-place honors. Lilleboe (72-78-71=221) and Brown
(76-72-73=221) both were five-over-par... Ferris State will
participate in the NCAA-II Great Lakes Region Tournament I on Sept.
21-22 at the Hawkshead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich.
Findlay - The Oilers men's golf team wrapped up
their third round at the Indianapolis Invitational on Tuesday,
September 16 at the Heartland Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis,
Indiana...The Oilers finished the event with a score of 893 which
was good for fourth place...Findlay shot a 299 in the first round
followed by a 394 in the second and a 300 in the
third...Sophomore's Joe McGeean and Justin Watren led the way by
tying for eighth place after posting a 221. McGeean shot a 73 in
the first and final round sandwiched in between a 75 in the
second...Watren meanwhile fired a 74, 73, 74 in the three rounds of
competition... Elsewhere, the Oilers took third at the Jon P.
Speiss Memorial Tournament in Wauseon, Ohio...The Oilers shot a
round of 309, four off of the pace of Trine University... Sophomore
Jeffrey Mocini and freshman Logan Cooke tied for third after
carding 76's and were named to the all-tournament team for their
efforts.
Grand Valley State - Grand Valley State shot a final round 293 and finished third at the Indianapolis Invitational with a team score of 879. The Lakers will host the NCAA Regional Tournament #1 Sept. 21 & 22 at HawksHead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich... Freshman Ben Brooks (Cedar Spring, Mich.), playing in just his second collegiate tournament, finished third overall with a a one-over par 217. Junior Matt Malloure (Farmington Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) tied for 14th with a 223, while junior Josh Burt (Holt, Mich.) tied for 19th with a 225. Senior Tony Mango (Milford, Mich.) finished 36th with a 54-hole total of 232.
Tiffin - Tiffin University finished 6th of 14 teams at the Indianapolis Invitational, firing a 904. Indianapolis won the event with a 870. The Dragons shot progressively better each day, opening with a 311 and cutting it to a 298 in round two before finishing with a 295 in round three. Bleu George came in second, missing medalist honors by 8 strokes and shooting a 75-70-71-216, while Jason Crow was 25th with a 79-76-73-228. Andy Kronander finished with a 232, Justin Sparks shot 236, and Matt Cherry finished with a 237. Tom Conway also posted an individual score of 236.
Wayne State - The
Wayne State University golf team earned a victory by the narrowest
of margins Friday at the Oakland Community College Invitational,
held at the Pontiac Country Club in Waterford ... the Warriors
posted a team score of 292, four-over par and one stroke lower than
the host Raiders ... redshirt junior Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn
Heights, Mich./Divine Child) was the medalist at the event,
shooting a four-under 68 to match his career low ... Steve Cuzzort
(Grosse Ile, Mich.) shot a two-over 74 to tie for third, while Chad
Johnson (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) and Michael Wouters (Sterling
Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) were a stroke back with 75 to tie for
seventh ... freshman Hagan Risner (Garden City, Mich.) finished in
a tie for 14th with a score of 77 ... after being rained out
Sunday, Wayne State hosted the 36-hole Motor City Invitational at
Pheasant Run on Monday and finished in second place (288-291-579),
six strokes behind Davenport University (288-285-573) ... Cuzzort
was one stroke off the lead (70-71-141) and placed second behind
Davenport's Kevin Palmer ... Cuzzort made par on 23 holes and
collected eight birdies ... Juszczyk came in third with a score of
144 (70-74) ... Risner tied for seventh (73-74-147), Wouters tied
for 10th (75-73-148)... the Warriors will play in the first of
three Great Lakes Regional events this Sunday and Monday, Sept.
21-22, at HawksHead in South Haven.
