Darkness Halts Second Round Of GLIAC Championship

GROSSE ILE, Mich. - Ferris State University is holding on to a one-stroke lead as darkness halted play near the end of Round #2 in the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's golf championship at the Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club in Grosse Ile, Mich.

The Bulldogs were one of three teams unable to finish the second round Sunday afternoon, but as play was stopped they held a one-stroke lead over Wayne State University. Saginaw Valley State University, which also has an incomplete score, is tied with Grand Valley State University for third place.

SVSU’s Dan Warner and Ashland’s Jay Overy shot 71 to start the day, but the only under-par scores on Sunday came in the second round.

Ferris State’s Kyle Wittenbach carded a 66 and is the overall leader at one-under par. WSU's Eric Johnson posted a 70 in the second round to put him three-over for the day and in second place.

Grand Valley State fired a 293 (+9) in the tournament's opening round on Sunday morning, grabbing the lead after 18 holes of competition.  Ferris State and Wayne State each carded 298 (+14) in the first round to share second place.

Play will resume in the second round at 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning with the third round set to commence at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
