Bay City, Mich. -- Northwood University freshman forward Keith Lough has been chosen as the GLIAC Men's Soccer "Player of the Week" as announced by the league office.

Keith Lough - Northwood University

Northwood University freshman forward Keith Lough scored three second-half goals in Northwood's 3-1 victory over previously undefeated No. 6 Ashland. His first goal came off a long feed down the right side at 53:06. He then scored again less than two minutes later off an impressive strike from long range over the keeper. He finished the scoring at 75:15 off a beautiful one-touch shot down the right side off a cross. Lough currently leads the team with 14 points.

Ashland - Ashland went 1-1-1
over the past week. In a showdown between top 25 ranked teams, AU
played Northern Kentucky to a 1-1 draw. Ashland received its first
loss on the season and in conference against Northwood on Friday,
3-1. AU bounced back on Sunday with a win over Saginaw Valley
State, 4-3, in overtime. Junior Tom Mangotic scored the game
winning goal on a penalty kick 54 seconds into the overtime period.
Junior Ross Ashley scored two goals over the course of the week to
give him eight goals on the season. Junior Adam Spannbauer scored
the only goal for Ashland against Northern Kentucky to give him 15
on the year. Freshman Kenny Hewitt continued to play well scoring
one goal and dishing out two assists. Senior Tom Rankin continued
his stellar season with two assists in just two matches played.
Ashland still sits with the best record in school history at
13-1-1. AU travels to Mount Vernon on Tuesday (Oct. 21), hosts
Tiffin on Friday (Oct. 24) and hosts Findlay on Sunday (Oct.
26).
Findlay - The Oilers lost a pair of non-conference
games last week, falling 2-1 to Seton Hill and 4-2 to Mercyhurst...
Freshman Miles LeGros scored two goals in the loss to
Mercyhurst...Sophomore Brennan Williams leads the team with six
goals while LeGros has scored four...Junior B.J. Goodwin leads the
team with four assists.
Northwood - The Northwood University men's soccer team handed sixth-ranked Ashland their first loss of the season Friday afternoon (October 17), as the Timberwolves earned a 3-1 victory over the Eagles ... Northwood is now 5-6 overall, 3-3 in the GLIAC. Ashland falls to 12-1-1 overall, 4-1 in the GLIAC ... Ashland was the better team in the first half, leading 1-0 at break on a goal in the 29th minute ... the second half proved to be a different story, thanks in large part to the individual effort of freshman forward Keith Lough (Ednbough, Scotland) ... he scored all three of the Timberwolves' goals, starting with a score at the 53:06 mark off a long ball from Sascha Nanninga (Hamburg, Germany) ... Lough then scored again less than two minutes later off an impressive strike from long range over the keeper ... he finished the scoring at 75:15 off a beautiful one-touch shot down the right side on a cross from Frederic Schloezel (Gevelsberg, Germany) ... freshman keeper Jacob Walsh (Grand Ledge, Mich.) earned his first career win after coming in for an injured Matt Renouf (Southampton, England). Walsh made a pair of saves and did not allow a goal in 61 minutes of action ... For the match, Northwood finished with a 17-15 advantage in shots ... Both teams finished the match with five corner kicks ... Northwood will play three matches this week, starting with a conference contest against Saginaw Valley State Thursday (October 23).
Saginaw Valley State - Saginaw
Valley State University won one game, and lost one game this week.
In the Cardinals' win, SVSU was able to get five goals against
Rochester University on Wednesday (Oct. 15). Cardinals got on the
board early when senior Brent Walker (Owosso, Mich./Owosso HS)
dribbled the ball 30 yards and beat Oiler's goalkeeper Daryl Lotz.
Later in the first half, Findlay had a penalty shot, and didn't
miss to knot the score at 1-1. A mere 20 seconds later, the
Cardinals got back on top when junior Vinny Vasilevski (Shelby
Township, Mich./Utica Eisenhower HS) scored at the 41:26 mark to
take the SVSU to halftime with a one-goal lead. In the second half,
the Cardinals extended their lead at the 56 minute mark with Larry
Ferreira received the ball from Paul Gracyk and put it passed Lotz.
Vasilevski knotched his second goal of the game at the 64 minute
mark to round out the game's scoring. In Sunday's matchup against
Ashland, the Cardinals lost 4-3 in the first overtime. Senior Brent
Walker (Owosso, Mich.) did manage to tally three points in the game
with one goal, and two assists.
Tiffin - The Dragons have been spreading the
offense around in recent weeks, as seven players now have double
figures in points. Ashton ‘Campbell leads the team with 15
points while Michael O'Neill has 14 points and Vlad 13 points.
Byron Kaverman and Tony Iyayi have 11 points each and Roger Kummer
and Rhys Cannella have 10 points apiece...Tony Iyayi had a hat
trick in 33 minutes of action against Lake Erie...Byron Kaverman
had three assists on the week...Paul Brodnick and Rhys Cannella had
goals against West Virginia Wesleyan...Jeff Frisch got the shutout
against West Virginia Wesleyan, while the Dragons outshot their
opponents for the week 37-12. TU only allowed five shots on goal
for the week.
