Ashland's Blaize Lishewski Named GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University senior goalkeeper Blaize Lishewski (Slyvania, Ohio/ St. Francis DeSales) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after reciording his third consecutive shutout.

Senior Blaize Lishewski continued his stellar play in goal for the Eagles this past week. The keeper had two shutouts against Tiffin and Findlay. He made four saves, while earning his third consecutive shutout. His 0.40 goals against average on the year is the top mark in the GLIAC, and he is in the top ten in the nation. Lishewski has not allowed a goal in 324:21 minutes. He has six shutouts on the season which tied the highest total in a single season in AU history.

GLIAC Men's Soccer Weekly Notes

 

Ashland Eagles (5-2-4, 3-0-1 GLIAC)

Ashland went 1-0-1 this past week in GLIAC action. The Eagles tied Tiffin on Friday (Oct. 2), 0-0. The two teams played the full 110 minutes without either team scoring a goal. On Sunday (Oct. 4), AU traveled to Findlay and came out with a 3-0 victory. Senior goalkeeper Blaize Lishewski played well for the Eagles on the week. The keeper had two shutouts this against Tiffin and Findlay. He made four saves, while earning his third consecutive shutout. His 0.40 goals against average on the year is the top mark in the GLIAC, and he is in the top ten in the nation. Lishewski has not allowed a goal in 324:21 minutes. He has six shutouts on the season which tied the highest total in a single season in AU history. Against Findlay, the Eagles received goals from senior Tom Rankin, senior Max Hiltner and junior Kelly Desmond. Ashland plays at Lake Erie on Thursday (Oct. 8) at 4 p.m.

 

Findlay Oilers (4-6-1, 1-3-0 GLIAC)

The Oilers went 0-2-1 last week…They tied Urbana 2-2, lost to Saint Joseph’s 3-2 and fell 3-0 to Ashland…Sophomore Corey Keister had two goals and an assist last week to lead the team…On the season, junior Mate Farkas leads the team with four goals and eight points…Keister has scored three goals while senior B.J. Goodwin and junior Brennan Williams each have two.

 

Northwood Timberwolves (5-4-1, 2-1-1 GLIAC)

The Northwood University men’s soccer team posted a 4-3 loss at home to Lake Erie Friday afternoon (October 2) in its lone action of the week ... NU is now 5-4-1 on the season ... an eventful first half saw the game go to the break tied at 2-2 ... after the Storm netted the opening goal, Northwood scored a pair of goals within 17 seconds of each other - Steve Hufstader (Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Northern) scored his second goal of the year at 28:44, followed by Keith Lough (Edinburgh, Scotland) also converting his second goal at 29:01 ... Lake Erie wasted no time responded, netting the equalizer 53 seconds after Lough’s goal to send the game to the break tied 2-2 Northwood finished the match with a 26-17 shots advantage, which included a 17-8 edge in shots on goal ... the Timberwolves have three matches this week - Monday at Ohio Dominican before returning home to face Findlay on Friday and Tiffin on Sunday.

 

Saginaw Valley State Cardinals (3-6-2, 0-3-1 GLIAC)

The Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer team picked up its second win of the season (Sept. 30) when they defeated Madonna University 4-0. The Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer team defeated Rochester College 2-0 (Oct. 3). After a scoreless first half the Cardinals got on the board in the 58th minutes when freshman Zach Meyers scored his first career goal off a pass from Andy Burgeson to put Saginaw Valley up 1-0. The Cardinals competed well but could not find the back of the net and fell to the Lake Erie Storm, 2-0. Senior forward Fox led the way for Saginaw Valley with nine total shots, two of which were on goal. As a team the Cards had 22 shots in the game but, unfortunately, could not get any of them past the Storm’s goalkeeper. With the loss Saginaw Valley’s record moves to 3-7-2 on the season while Lake Erie moves to 4-6-1 overall. The Cardinals return to GLIAC play again Friday (Oct. 9) when they host Tiffin University at 4:30pm.

 

Tiffin Dragons (6-2-1, 2-1-1 GLIAC)

TU and Ashland hooked up in a classic matchup, with neither team getting the edge in a 0-0 double overtime tie. The Dragons got solid play from Jeff Frisch in goal, as he worked 110 minutes and made 4 saves.
