Ohio Dominican Panthers
TIn what shaped up to be the greatest final in GLIAC Men’s Soccer Tournament history, the Ohio Dominican Panthers just missed on capturing their first conference championship as a member of the GLIAC, falling 6-5 in a penalty kick shootout to No. 21 and top seed Ashland on Saturday evening at Ferguson Field in Ashland, Ohio. The Eagles and Panthers battled to a 1-1 draw through 90 minutes of regulation and two overtimes after both teams scored goals midway through the first half. Ashland got on the board first as Adam Spannbauer connected from eight yards out at the 25:13 mark, but ODU quickly countered with the equalizer as a foul in the box allowed freshman Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, OH) to connect on his fourth score of the season. The Panthers posted their second largest scoring output of the season against Northwood (Mich.) in the semifinals on Thursday, taming the Timberwolves 4-1 to advance to the finals. Senior Pat McGrath (Cincinnati, OH) recorded his fourth and fifth goals of the season in the victory, while Felix Darko (Jr./Reynoldburg, OH) posted his team-leading eighth goal and sixth assist. Since they are in the final year of transition and cannot compete in the NCAA Regionals, ODU concludes their inaugural season at the Division II level with a 13-5-2 record.
