BAY CITY, Mich. - Ashland University goal keeper Justin Nolan (Medina, Ohio/Highland) earned GLIAC Men's Soccer "Athlete of the Week" honors after earning two shutouts in a pair of wins for the Eagles last weekend over Ohio Dominican (2-0) and Urbana (1-0, 2OT).

Ashland freshman Louis Clark
recorded five points this week, all in the first half of
Ashland’s 3-0 win over Saginaw Valley State on Sunday
afternoon. He scored in the 14th and 34th minutes and assisted on
Adam Spannbauer’s (Akron, Ohio/Firestone) goal in the 31st
minute. The freshman now has a league-high 11 goals this season and
is tied for fifth in AU’s single-season history with four
games to play. He also has two assists on the season and is tied
for the league lead in points per game (1.85).

Eagles
The Eagles were 2-0 with shutout
home wins over Ohio Dominican (2-0) on Friday and Urbana (1-0, 2OT)
on Sunday. The Eagles got a penalty kick goal from Louis Clark
(Brighton, England/Hove Park) and a goal from Danny Lusheck
(Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) in Friday’s win over the
Panthers. The win gave No. 16 Ashland a four-point lead in the
GLIAC standings. It also extended AU’s 21-game unbeaten
streak in GLIAC regular season play. On Sunday, senior James
Livingston (Aughton, England/University of Liverpool) scored the
game-winner with 20 seconds to play in double-overtime against
Urbana. Clark had the assist on the play. Sophomore goalkeeper
Justin Nolan (Medina, Ohio/Highland) played every minute in net for
the Eagles and now has five shutouts this season. He made five
saves over the weekend and holds a 1.06 goals against average.
Findlay Oilers
The University of Findlay men’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Northwood at home on Thursday and then tied Saginaw Valley State 1-1 on Saturday at DeHaven Field. Junior Corey Keister scored the Oilers lone goal against the Timberwolves while senior Joey Gogolin found the back of the net against the Cardinals. On the season, senior Brennan Williams leads the team with four goals.
Lake Erie Storm
The Storm played just a solo game this week, falling to Ohio Dominican, 3-1, on Sunday. In the loss, junior forward Marco Gaudio (Cambridge, England/Impington Village College) provided the goal for Lake Erie. The goal was Gaudio’s eighth on the season for a team which has scored 13 goals. In goal, sophomore Ricky Carreira (Toronto, Ont./Dante Alighieri Academy) made 14 strong saves. Carreira now has 150 on the season, and entering last week led NCAA Division II in saves.
Northwood Timberwolves
Northwood clinched a spot in the GLIAC Tournament this week, going 1-1 in conference play. The Timberwolves earned a 2-1 victory at Findlay before falling 2-0 at Tiffin. The Timberwolves are now 7-5-3 overall, 4-4-3 in the GLIAC. Northwood is currently tied with SVSU for the final spot in the tournament, but the Cardinals are done for the season and the Timberwolves hold the tiebreaker over SVSU. Northwood went 1-0-1 against the Cardinals to earn the tiebreaker. Keith Lough (Edinburgh, Scotland) scored both of NU’s goals in the win at Findlay. He now has a team-leading five goals on the season. NU has a pair of games this week, traveling to Urbana and Ohio Dominican.
Ohio Dominican Panthers
The No. 22 Panthers split their
final two road games this past weekend, falling to No. 16 Ashland,
2-0, in a battle for first place on Friday evening, before
rebounding to take down Lake Erie, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon. ODU
remains one point behind the Eagles for the GLIAC lead with a
conference game remaining. Sean Lipps (Fr./Gahanna, OH) and Pat
McGrath (Sr./Cincinnati, OH) both scored their third goals of the
season in the win over the Storm. The Panthers step out of GLIAC
play, hosting No. 5 Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.
27, before concluding the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 4:30
p.m. as they host Northwood (Mich.). Even though ODU is in the
final year of transitioning to NCAA Division II, the Panthers can
play in the conference tournament since the GLIAC does not have a
automatic qualifier to nationals.
Saginaw Valley State Cardinals
The Saginaw Valley State University men’s soccer team fell to Tiffin, 3-0 and tied Findlay, 1-1 in double overtime this past weekend. The Cardinals were paced by senior Anthony Palazzolo, who had the only shot on goal against Tiffin and scored the goal against Findlay with under a minute left in the contest. The Cardinals will return home this week to face Urbana for their final regular season home game.
Tiffin Dragons
The Dragons’ Ashton Campbell,
junior, recorded a single tally in each half while Adam Fussell
scored his first goal on his first shot of the season as Tiffin
defeated Saginaw Valley Thursday afternoon in a Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown at Paradiso Fields.
For the game, the Dragons outshot the Cardinals 20-4, including 6-1
in shots on target. Tiffin scored the only goal in the first half
at the 23:33 mark. Freshman Pierre De Pauw was able to keep the
ball before it went out of bounds, crossed the ball back to the
center for Campbell, who slammed it home for his 11th goal of the
season. For the first period, the Dragons put four of their 12
shots on goal. Tiffin added the critical insurance goal from an
unlikely source in the 58th minute. Campbell left the ball for his
teammate 30 yards out. From there, Fussell blasted the shot inside
the left post for his first goal of the season and put the Dragons
up 2-0. Campbell added his 12th goal of the season in the
game’s 87th minute from De Pauw…The Dragons used
steady play to wear down the Timberwolves and score in each half as
Tiffin defeated Northwood 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Paradiso
Athletic Complex. For the match, Tiffin outshot Northwood 12-8,
including 8-2 in shots on goal. Playing his final home game for the
Dragons, Rhys Cannella scored the game’s first goal 10
minutes into the contest. Ashton Campbell capped the scoring in the
second half with his team-leading 13th goal. Also playing in his
final home contest, TU goalie Jeff Frisch grabbed both shots faced
to record his second shutout of the year to improve to 9-3-1 on the
season.
