Northwood Timberwolves

Wayne State Warriors

Fresh off of its best finish at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in more than a decade, the Wayne State University men’s tennis team (15-7, 5-2 GLIAC) will now have the chance for even more success as the Warriors have been selected by the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Committee to take part in the 2010 NCAA Division II Men’s Tennis Championships.

Wayne State will play Rockhurst in its first round match on May 7 at Drury University in Springfield, Mo. If victorious, WSU would face the winner of the Drury vs. Michigan Tech match for the right to move on.

Next week’s match will be the first meeting between WSU and Rockhurst, a school located in Kansas City that competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Eagles finished their season with an overall record of 10-8 and a conference mark of 4-1.

WSU and Rockhurst had three common opponents on their respective schedules this season. Both the Warriors and Eagles lost to Northwood while defeating Grand Valley State and Lewis.

Wayne State has been led by Bertrand Moulin and Thomas Ducret in singles competition. Moulin, who is a two-time First Team All-GLIAC performer, has produced a record of 20-4 this season. Ducret, a freshman who was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team, had a 16-4 record at No. 3 singles in his first season at Wayne State. Three other Warriors (Roberto Gomez, Oscar Gamarra and Jon Groszek) have also won at least 10 singles matches this year.

In doubles action, Moulin and Britton Steele had a 15-4 record from the No. 1 position while Gamarra and Kevin Turnbull went 13-7 playing primarily from the third doubles spot.

Wayne State has earned NCAA Tournament berths in seven of the last 10 years.
