Ashland, Saginaw Valley State & Wayne State Post Wins on Day 1 of Softball Regional Tournaments

ASHLAND, Ohio/DETROIT, Mich. - Ashland University, Saginaw Valley State University and Wayne State University each posted victories on Day 1 of the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Softball Tournaments.  The only GLIAC team that did collect a win on Friday was Tiffin University, which fell to Ashland by the score of 8-4.  SVSU defeated the University of Indianapolis 3-0 (14 innings), while Wayne State downed Quincy University (Ill.), 6-0.

Any tightness the Eagles felt in the early stages of Friday afternoon’s game were gone by the time the first inning was complete.  The Eagles scored a single run in each of the first three innings, built a 5-0 lead after five innings and went on to subdue the Dragons, 8-4. The win puts Ashland into Saturday’s 12 p.m., game against Northern Kentucky, which outlasted Lewis in 11 innings Friday at Brookside Park, 3-2.
