Grand Valley State Finishes Second, Ferris State Sixth At 2009 NCAA D-II Women's Golf Championships

Findlay, Ohio -- Grand Valley State jumped from fourth place after three days of golf at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship to a second-place finish at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio on Saturday (May 16). The Lakers totaled a fourth-round score of 309 to jump ahead of Rollins and Indianapolis and take home a runner-up finish. Four GVSU golfers finished in the individual top-25.

Ferris State concluded its 2008-09 season with a sixth-place tying performance at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships (May 13-16) in Findlay, Ohio. The Bulldogs registered a four-round 1,275 team stroke total on the par 72, 6,219-yard Findlay Country Club course to tie Tarleton State (Texas) for sixth place among the 12 teams participating.

Ferris State - Ferris State concluded its 2008-09 season with a sixth-place tying performance at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships (May 13-16) in Findlay, Ohio. The Bulldogs registered a four-round 1,275 team stroke total on the par 72, 6,219-yard Findlay Country Club course to tie Tarleton State (Texas) for sixth place among the 12 teams participating. FSU totaled rounds of 316, 318, 319, and 322 in the 72-hole tourney. Senior Alison Meyer (Duluth, Minn./Central) led Ferris State with a seventh-place tying 308 score (77-76-80-75-308, +20) while senior Raquel Hansen (West Olive/Grand Haven) produced a 321 score (83-80-78-80=321, +33) to gain a share of 32nd-place honors. FSU's showing at the 2009 national tournament represented the Bulldogs' sixth consecutive to date and the ninth in the program's history. Ferris State made its initial such appearance in 1992 followed by appearances in 1994, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008...Senior Alison Meyer wrapped up her Ferris State career (2005-09) by placing second among the program's all-time stroke average leaders with a 78.51 average (8,244 total strokes) in 105 career rounds. Meyer led the Bulldogs this season by producing a 77.24 average (2.240 total strokes) in 29 rounds, which represented the third-best average on FSU's single-season leaders list...Senior Raquel Hansen closed out her career (2005-09) at FSU ranking fifth on the school's all-time leaders list with a 79.89 stroke average (8,549 total strokes) in 107 rounds. Hansen recorded a squad second-best 78.66 stroke average (2,281 total strokes) in 29 rounds of competition for the 2008-09 campaign...Ferris State is listed 10th place in the fifth and final Golf World/National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Women's Golf Coaches' Poll (May 6) for the 2008-09 season with 160 points. Four GVSU golfers finished in the individual top-25. ..Nova Southeastern used back-to-back rounds of 307 to finish with a four-day score of 1230 (+78) and the team championship. Grand Valley State started the day in fourth place, but used its second round of 309 for a total tally of 1245 (+93) to overtake both Rollins and Indianapolis, who tied for third place at +96 with a team score of 1248. Florida Southern (1258, +106), Ferris State (1275, +123) and Tarleton State (1275, +123) rounded out the top-seven schools. ..Led by first-year head coach Rebecca Mailloux, GVSU was extremely consistent throughout the four-day tournament, shooting rounds of 310, 309, 317, and 309 to account for its overall total. Rounds two and three were both played on Friday after weather issues postponed Thursday's play...Four Lakers finished in the top-25, led by juniors Caitlin Bennett and Ashley Smith. The duo tied for 12th place with a score of 310, good for +22. Bennett shot rounds of 74, 78, 81, and 77 for her tally, while Smith, the GLIAC Golfer of the Year, was consistent throughout the week with scores of 77, 78, 77, and 78...Sophomore Kristina Langton placed in a tie for 15th with a score of 313 (+25). Langton got stronger over the final two days with rounds of 79, 81, 77, and 76. Freshman Sarah Hoffman finished tied for 21st with a 315 (+27), as she shot 80, 74, 83, and 78 in the four rounds. Sophomore Allie Tyler tied for 39th place with a score of 324 (+36).
