GLIAC Unveils 2021 Women's Soccer Postseason Awards

GLIAC – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the women's soccer postseason awards for fall 2021, as voted on by the league's coaches. 

Grand Valley State junior forward Greta DeLoach (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year. She headlined the conference's most prolific offense, recording a league-high 19 goals, including seven game winners, and 43 points. DeLoach posted four multi-goal games, including two hat trick performances.   

GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Grand Valley State senior back Cecilia Steinwascher (Sterling Heights, Mich.). Steinwascher spearheaded a suffocating Laker defense that surrendered just eight total goals in 14 conference games. Steinwascher was a major contributor to 14 total shutouts, including a  stretch of six consecutive. She also lent an offensive presence, registering a GLIAC-best 10 assists. 

Saginaw Valley State senior Olivia Argeros (Oakland Township, Mich.) earned GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year recognition. Argeros logged every available minute in goal this season for the Cardinals, posting a 0.76 goals against average and 83.3 save percentage. She recorded a GLIAC-high 11 shutouts while making a total of 75 saves. 

GLIAC Freshman of the Year was awarded to Saginaw Valley State forward Stephanie Strong (Howell, Mich.). Strong played in all 19 games, making 18 starts. She led the Cardinals with 13 goals, including nine in conference play, and 28 points. Early in her rookie season, Strong scored at least one goal in six-straight games. 

Jim Conlon of Grand Valley State was selected as GLIAC Coach of the Year. In his first season at the helm of the Laker program, Conlon led GVSU to an undefeated 17-0-2 record and No. 1-national ranking for seven consecutive weeks. The Lakers posted a 12-0-2 conference record and led the GLIAC in both goals scored (49) and goal allowed (8).
