Timberwolves defeat Grand Valley 5-2 in the finals

 The Northwood University women's tennis team claimed their fifth straight GLIAC Championship Sunday (October 28) with a 5-2 win over Grand Valley in the conference tournament championship.

The Timberwolves finish their fall season with a 12-0 record. Grand Valley is now 11-2 overall.

GVSU came out strong, earning a pair of victories to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles. Northwood came back in singles, earning three straight set victories at the top three positions. The Timberwolves then earned the title thanks to a three-set win at No. 5 singles by Nicole Kromer (Dogern, Germany).

At the conclusion of the event, Northwood was well represented in the post-season awards. Senior Julia Goncalves (Curitiba, Brazil) was named the Player of the Year, while all six Timberwolves earned All-GLIAC recognition. Goncalves was joined on the First Team by Darina Berkova (Ceske Budejovic, Czech Republic) and Ashley Neumann (Port Colborn, Ont.). Freshman Raphaela Perisic and sophomore Maelys Scerri were placed on the second team, while Kromer was named Honorable Mention.
