Ferris State's Tiffany Rheynard Named GLIAC Women's Player of the Week

Bay City, Mich -- Ferris State Sophomore Women's Tennis Player Tiffany Rheynard has been choses as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week it was announced by the league office.

Ferris State University sophomore Tiffany Rheynard helped key the Bulldogs' season-opening 6-3 league win over Saginaw Valley State by winning two matches on Saturday (Sept. 6). Rheynard, who moved up in both singles and doubles play from her spots in the FSU lineup last campaign, recorded a convincing 6-3, 6-2 triumph at the number three singles flight. She also teamed up with fellow sophomore Amy Ingle to register an 8-6 victory in number one doubles play, which helped the Bulldogs take a 2-1 lead following the doubles portion of the contest. She was one of two Bulldog players to claim both singles and doubles wins in the triumph.

 Ashland - The Eagles will begin competition Sept. 12 at Wayne State.

 Ferris State - The Ferris State women's tennis team opened its 2008 fall season on a high note as the Bulldogs registered a 6-3 victory over Saginaw Valley State this Saturday (Sept. 6) afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match held at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich. Ferris State (1-0 overall) started off strong against the Cardinals, winning two of three in doubles and then prevailing in singles two thru four.
Sophomores Amy Ingle and Tiffany Rheynard won 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles spot while seniors Ann Grant and Jennifer Prisner combined for the victory at No. 3 doubles, winning in a tie-breaker 9-8 (5). In singles play, freshman Melissa Flowers won in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) at No. 2 while Tiffany Rheynard did likewise at the third flight (6-3, 6-2). The Bulldogs return to the courts on Sept. 19-21, competing in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Midland, Mich.

Findlay - The University of Findlay women's tennis team opened their season with a 9-0 loss to Northwood University on Saturday, September 6 at the Armstrong Complex. The Oilers are now 0-1 on the season with a 0-1 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)...The Oilers will be back in action again on September 9 when they travel to Bluffton, Ohio to face Bluffton University at 3:30 p.m.

Grand Valley State - Grand Valley State opens its season Sept. 18 against Saginaw Valley State.

Lake Superior State - Lake Superior State opens play today, Sept. 9 when they battle Lawrence (Wis.).

Michigan Tech -The Huskies begin their season Sept. 12 at Saginaw Valley State.

Northwood - The Northwood women's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Findlay Saturday afternoon (September 6). It was the season-opener for both teams. Northwood swept doubles, dropping a total of nine games in the process to go up 3-0 heading into singles. NU dominated singles play, sweeping all six matches in straight sets...The Timberwolves will return to action Sept. 12 when they host Lake Superior State. That match gets under way at 2 p.m.

Saginaw Valley State - SVSU returned to the court for the 2008 tennis season against the Bulldogs of Ferris State on Saturday (Sept. 6), falling 6-3... The Cardinals picked up a victory at No. 2 doubles with the team of Debra Hammond and Sarah Campian winning 8-5. SVSU's other two victories would come at No. 1 singles where Katie Hanover won her match 7-5. 4-6, 10-7 and at No. 5 singles where Cortney Heileman won her match in straight sets 6-3 and 6-4...With the loss the Cardinals fall to 0-1 on the season and the Bulldogs move to 1-0. SVSU will return to the court on September 12 when they host Michigan Tech at the SVSU Tennis Complex.

Tiffin - Tiffin (0-1) fell 8-1 at Charleston in their fall opener, with Taylor Cooper/Ashley Hershner winning the sole match for TU at No. 2 doubles 8-4. Teauana Long, Hershner, Cooper, Jessica Stefanov, Beth Clark, and Erika Bailey all fell in straight set singles matches, while Long/Stefanov (3-8) and Clark/Bailey (1-8) fell in doubles play.

Wayne State - Wayne State Warrior women's tennis opened up the 2008-09 season at home with non-conference opponent Valparaiso University, Saturday. It was the first match for both teams this year. Wayne State won the match 5-4...In doubles action Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ontario/Academie Ste. Cecile) and Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia/ Uros Predic Sceondary School) def. Jenny Schwartz and Molly Keifer 8-3, in No.1 doubles. That would be the only doubles point for WSU. Kim Sajevic and Julie Wingstrom def. Jennifer Bradford (Detroit/Mumford) and Deby Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) 8-2 in the second flight. Then Meghan Luzod (Royal Oak, Mich./Dondero) and Sargam Bhatt (Canton, Mich./Truman Taylor) were defeated by Stephanie York and Katie Bilyeu in a close match, 8-6...Sophomore Gill won her No.1 singles match handily, defeating Sajevic 6-3, 6-1. Schwartz def. Correa in a very close match 4-6, 6-4, and 7-5 in the third flight. Bradford def. York in straight sets 6-3 and 6-4 in the fifth flight...The Warriors are now 1-0 to start the season. They take on GLIAC opponent Ashland at the Matthaei, Friday Sept. 12, at 3 p.m.
