Bay City, Mich. -- Michigan Technological University freshman Victoria Zhilkina has been chosen as the Women's Tennis Player of the Week it was announced by the league office.

Michigan Technological University freshman Victoria Zhilkina posted a 4-0 record last weekend (9/27-9/28) versus Ferris State University and Grand Valley State University. She swept both of her No. 1 singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0 score versus GVSU's Audrey Koopsen. At No. 2 doubles, Zhilkina and partner Asel Otunchieva won by 8-1 and 8-4 scores against Ferris State and Grand Valley State, respectively.

Ashland - AU improved their record to 5-1, 3-0 after going 2-1 this past week. Ashland beat Tiffin last Thursday (9/25), 8-1. The Eagles then hosted the Ashland Invitational on Saturday (9/27). Ashland lost a close match against Northern Kentucky, 5-4, but then beat IUP, 9-0. Freshman Victoria Goudy went undefeated over the week winning all three second singles matches and winning all three first doubles matches with her partner, freshman Paige Cooper. In her singles matches, she never dropped more than one game in a set. Goudy improved to 6-0 in singles on the season in team matches, and 5-1 in doubles. AU will host three matches this week; Ohio Dominican on Tuesday (9/30), Saginaw Valley State on Friday (10/3), and Northwood on Saturday (10/4).

Ferris State - The Ferris State University women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a pair of wins this past weekend (Sept. 26-27) in Michigan's Upper Peninsula over Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech. All three of FSU's dual match victories this fall have come by identical 6-3 scores. FSU has posted only a 6-7 record in doubles action this season, but owns an 18-11 overall mark in singles play, which includes both dual and tournament competition. Ferris is 13-5 in GLIAC singles play and 5-4 in league doubles matches. The Bulldogs host archrival Northwood Tuesday (Sept. 30) in a 3 p.m. (EDT) league tilt at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids, Mich.

Findlay -
The Oilers lost their only match of the week on September 24, 8-1 at Indiana Wesleyan...Amanda Molnar picked up the lone win in singles competition after scoring 6-3, 6-2.

Grand Valley State - Grand Valley State has opened up the season with a 3-0 record (3-0 GLIAC), with wins at Lake Superior State (8-1) and Michigan Tech (6-3)...In singles play for dual matches, GVSU has posted a record of 17-1 (.944)...In GLIAC play, six different Lakers have not lost in singles matches...The Lakers are undefeated at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles...The Lakers are 24-7 (.774) in singles play and 12-6 (.667) in doubles play...Freshman Maria Gassanova is undefeated with a 2-0 record in singles and a 1-0 record in doubles play.

Lake Superior State - After going 0-9 in doubles during its first three dual matches, LSSU was 3-3 in doubles during last weekend's home matches against Ferris State and Grand Valley State. Freshman Ingrid Pflieger (Grossaitingen, Germany) and Erin Wiethoff (Escanaba, Mich.) were paired for the first time at No. 3 doubles and won 8-5 and 8-4. Freshman Adrienne DiVito and junior Carolyn Pumford posted their first GLIAC doubles win, 9-7, against FSU, and improved to 2-5 overall...DiVito was the Lakers' lone singles winner for the weekend. She beat FSU's Tiffany Rheynard, 6-4, 4-1 (default), at No. 3 singles.

Michigan Tech - Michigan Tech lost by a 6-3 score in each of its matches over the weekend at the Gates Tennis Center. The Huskies were defeated by Ferris State Saturday (Sept. 27) and Grand Valley State Sunday (Sept. 28). The matches represented the first home matches for Tech in 2008-09...Michigan Tech freshman Victoria Zhilkina went 4-0 in her matches over the weekend. She swept both of her No. 1 singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0 score vs. GVSU's Audrey Koopsen...At No. 2 doubles, Zhilkina and partner Asel Otunchieva won by 8-1 and 8-4 scores...Tech's No. 1 doubles duo of Silvia Oliveros and Nathalia Rondelli posted their best match of the season in Sunday's 8-6 triumph over the Lakers' top doubles team.

Northwood -
The Northwood University women's tennis team defeated Wayne State 9-0 Wednesday afternoon (September 24). They stay perfect on the season with a 5-0 record...The Timberwolves also stand at 5-0 in the GLIAC. Wayne State is now 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC with the loss...NU opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches to go up 3-0 heading into singles. Northwood then posted six victories in singles, four of which were in straight sets, to complete the sweep...The Timberwolves are on the road next week against Ferris State next Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Saginaw Valley State - Saginaw Valley State University got back to its winning ways when they defeated the University of Findlay 8-1 on Sunday (9/21). Senior Katie Hanover took her number 1 singles match in two sets, winning 6-3 and 6-4. Two singles Debra Hammond took her match, 6-2 and 6-3 after winning her 2 doubles match where she teamed up with Sarah Campian for an 8-2 win. Campian would win her five singles match by scores of 6-1 and 6-1...In the team's loss to Wayne State on Friday (9/26), SVSU senior Danielle Coldren defeated Wayne State's Deby Correa in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

Tiffin -
Taylor Cooper picked up both points in the Dragons' match with Kenyon (Ohio), winning at third singles 6-2, 6-3 and teaming with Ashley Hershner at second doubles to win 8-4...Cooper/Hershner also picked up the lone GLIAC match win of the week against Ashland, posting an 8-6 victory at second doubles.

Wayne State - WSU traveled back to Midland to play Northwood after spending the previous weekend there for the ITA Midwest Regional tournament. The Timberwolves won handily, defeating the Warriors 9-0. Sharon Gill's #1 Singles loss ended her 14 straight dual match winning streak, carried over from last spring. She lost in straight sets to Darina Berkova, 6-1, 6-4. The Warriors re-grouped, and showed that they are back on the right track, defeating Saginaw Valley State, 6-3 Friday. It was the first GLIAC win for Kristina Goranskaya, as she defeated Debra Hammond, 6-1, 6-2. Wayne State travels to Lake Superior State on Friday (10/3) and Michigan Tech Saturday (10/4).
