GLIAC Council of Presidents and Chancellors approve Spring Fan Policy

GLIAC-- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference presidents and chancellors approved a new fan and spectator policy for the spring sports season.

Effective March 19, 2021, institutions may choose to allow spectators and fans at spring sports events. Attendance will be limited to 375 individuals at outdoor venues (institutions may impose greater restrictions). Volleyball will be restricted to four tickets per student-athlete for the home team only. All spectators attending any GLIAC contest must wear masks when inside the venue's designated area as determined by the host.

Additionally, institutions will implement the following protocols to ensure the safety of student-athletes, fans and coaches:

  • Institutions must establish a 20-foot separation between the field of play and spectators.

  • Institutions will communicate spectator expectations on their available platforms (web, social media, signage at venues), conveying the importance of having student-athletes and coaches avoid intermingling with spectators before, between or after contests.

"I commend the efforts put forth by our athletic departments and our Covid-19 task force, who have found a way for our student-athletes to compete safely during a full winter sports season," GLIAC Commissioner Kris Dunbar said. "We are hoping to see continued success as we head into the spring sports season and begin to allow a conservative number of fans in attendance."
