BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its first weekly softball awards for the 2016 season. Wayne State junior pitcher Lyndsay Butler captured GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors, while Lake Superior State junior first baseman Carly Banchiu collected GLIAC Player of the Week accolades.

Highlights: Wayne State junior pitcher Lyndsay Butler went 3-0 in the circle with a 0.33 earned-run average. She struck out 25 and walked six and limited opponents to a .139 batting average. At the plate, Butler went 8-for-15 for a .533 percentage, one home run and three runs batted in. Butler recorded three multi-hit games and racked up a .588 on-base percentage along with an .867 slugging percentage. |

Highlights: The Lakers played four games at the Finlandia Dome Tournament this weekend, going 3-1. In the first game of the day, Carly Banchiu went 2-for-2 with a walk, scored two runs, and drove in a run. She scored two runs and drew a walk in the team's second game. On Sunday, against Edgewood College, Banchiu wrapped up the tournament with a huge game at the plate. The junior from Waterford, Mich., went 5-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs. She also scored three runs. For the weekend Banchiu went 7-for-11 (.636), with seven runs scored, seven RBIs, two home runs and two walks. She finished with a .692 on-base percentage and a 1.182 slugging percentage. |
