WSU's Cazacu Earns GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week Award

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth women's tennis weekly awards for the 2019 season. Wayne State sophomore Laura Cazacu claimed GLIAC Player of the Week honors after an impressive weekend against conference opponents. 


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Laura Cazacu - Wayne State 

Wayne State sophomore Laura Cazacu (London, England) went 4-0 in GLIAC matches over the weekend, assisting the Warriors to back-to-back 6-1 victories against Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech.  On Saturday vs. LSSU, Cazacu and partner Linda Liong secured the Wayne State doubles point after a 6-3 win at the first flight.  Cazacu notched a victory over 2017 GLIAC Player of the Year, AlexiAnn Drouin, at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-1).  On Sunday, Cazacu and Liong tallied a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.  She won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-0.  Cazacu won 18 of 20 games versus Michigan Tech in singles and doubles combined.
