GVSU's Gates, DU's Kalinowksi and LSSU's Kalinowski honored as GLIAC volleyball players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 3 of the 2023 volleyball season. Grand Valley State junior Jordyn Gates was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Davenport graduate libero Stephanie Kalinowski was honored as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and Lake Superior State senior setter Emily Kalinowski earned GLIAC Setter of the Week accolades.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jordyn Gates, Grand Valley State

Grand Valley State junior Jordyn Gates has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week following her week of 30 kills, 37 assists, 18 digs. This is the first GLIAC Player of the Week award for the 2022 AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. Gates hit .300 and tallied 13 kills and dished out 16 assists in the GLIAC opener against Michigan Tech. The next day in the win over Northern Michigan, Gates recorded her second triple-double of the season, as she had 17 kills, 21 assists, and 16 digs, all while swinging at a .457 clip.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Stephanie Kalinowski, Davenport

For the second consecutive week, Stephanie Kalinowski (South Lyon, Mich.) has been named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. Kalinowski registered a career-high 32 digs against Northern Michigan on Friday (Sept. 15). Her previous best came against Parkside as a sophomore (2020), tallying 29 digs against the Rangers in her first season with DU. The libero finished the weekend with 46 digs and an impressive 5.75 digs per set to start GLIAC action. Kalinowski also tallied 14 digs as Davenport swept Michigan Tech on Saturday (Sept. 16). The graduate leads the conference in total digs (164) and is third in digs per set (4.21).


SETTER OF THE WEEK - Emily Kalinowski, Lake Superior State

Lake Superior State senior setter Emily Kalinowski had an incredible 58-assist performance (top mark by any GLIAC player this season) in the Lakers' victory over Saginaw Valley State, marking the seventh-best single-match performance in terms of assists in program history while also pushing her to 1,724 career assists, which is also now the seventh best mark in program history. She was also able to add 19 digs defensively, including 11 against SVSU to complete her fifth double-double of the season.
