Grand Valley State Leads Learfield Directors' Cup Fall Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Grand Valley State recorded a national title in women's cross country, runner-up showings in men's cross country and women's soccer along with a quarterfinal appearance in football to lead the nation with 350 points in the final NCAA Division II Learfield Directors' Cup fall standings. Overall, four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) programs are ranked inside the Top 40. GVSU has won 11 total Learfield Directors' Cups, including three consecutive. 

The Lakers currently hold a 26-point lead over Colorado School of Mines and a 93-point edge over LIU Post following the completion of the fall sports calendar.

Ferris State racked up 147 points in 26th position after a football national semifinal and volleyball regional final appearances, while Saginaw Valley amassed 142.5 points in 29th place after qualifying for the postseason in men's cross country, men's soccer and volleyball. Hillsdale sits in 36th place thanks to both cross country teams competing at nationals.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.
