BAY CITY, Mich. — Malone University junior golfer Jake Troyer has been named 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Golfer of the Year as announced by the conference office on Friday (April 22). Grand Valley State's Bryce Messner earned Freshman of the Year honors, while Tiffin's Darby Roggow captured Coach of the Year accolades for the second straight season after guiding the Dragons to back-to-back conference championships.

Malone University's Jake Troyer has put together a remarkable season for the Pioneers. The junior from Dover, Ohio (Garaway H.S.) has finished first in six of 11 events during the 2015-16 campaign and boasts a scoring average of 72.36.  He earned medalist honors at three fall tournaments, capturing the Malone Fall Classic, the GLIAC North Tournament and the Tiffin University Invitational.  Troyer, who has garnered GLIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week accolades three times this year, then continued his dominant play in the spring, finishing no lower than fourth at the six tournaments in which the Pioneers competed.

Highlights of the spring semester for Troyer included bringing home medalist honors from the GLIAC Spring Invitational and the NCAA Midwest Regional that was held at Elks Run Golf Club.  Troyer's most dramatic triumph of the year came last weekend as he became the first Malone men's golf student-athlete to capture medalist honors at the GLIAC Championship after prevailing on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.

Grand Valley State's Bryce Messner has recorded a 75.36 average through 19 rounds this season, the second best mark on the team. The Hartland, Michigan native has three top five and four top ten individual finishes this season, and shot a season low 68 in the second round of the GLIAC South Invitational on March 26^th.
