GLIAC announces swimmers and divers of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth weekly awards of the 2023-24 swimming & diving season. Wayne State freshman Khalil Ben Ajmia was named GLIAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, Northern Michigan junior Camilla Carbone was honored as GLIAC Women's Swimmer of the Week, Northern Michigan sophomore Tobie Stiles was selected GLIAC Men's Diver of the Week and Grand Valley State junior Maddie Kooistra earned GLIAC Women's Diver of the Week for the third-consecutive week.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Khalil Ben Ajmia, Wayne State

Freshman Khalil Ben Ajmia (Tunis, Tunisia) was named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday.  Competing in his first collegiate meet on Friday against Davenport and Ashland, Ben Ajmia set new Matthaei Natatorium records for the 500 free (4:31.65) and 1000 free (9:18.80) while winning both events. 

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Camilla Carbone, Northern Michigan

On Friday against SVSU and Findlay, Camilla Carbone posted the #2 time in the nation and a first-place finish with a time of 55.16 in the 100-yard Backstroke, along with being a part of the second-place team in the 200-yard Medley Relay. On Saturday against Grand Valley State, Carbone earned third place in the 200-yard backstroke and was a part of the second-place team for the 400-yard medley. 

MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Tobie Stiles, Northern Michigan

On Friday against SVSU and Findlay, Stiles claimed first in the 1-meter dive and second in the 3-meter dive, with scores of 272.80 and 232.80, respectively. Stiles continued his dominant diving on Saturday against Grand Valley State, claiming first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 463.27 and 279.15, respectively. 

WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Maddie Kooistra, Grand Valley State

Junior Maddie Kooistra earns her third consecutive GLIAC Diver of the Week award after she swept the diving events Saturday, helping No.12 Grand Valley State to an upset of No. 7 Northern Michigan. Kooistra dominated the 1-meter dive, posting a score of 439.49. She won the event by more than 24 points. Kooistra posted 263.92 in the 3-meter dive, winning it by more than 16 points. The award this week means Kooistra has already claimed more GLIAC Diver of the Week awards this season than her previous years. This is the fifth time in Kooistra's career she's be named GLIAC Diver of the Week.
