GVSU's Chada and Becker take cross country athlete of the week awards for Week 2

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 2 of the 2021 cross country season. Grand Valley State's Tanner Chada was named GLIAC Male Athlete of the Week, while GVSU's Hannah Becker captured GLIAC Athlete of the Week honors on the women's side.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Tanner Chada - Grand Valley State

Junior Tanner Chada (Hinckley, Ill.) led GVSU to victory at the Spartan Invitational, finishing second in the 8K with a time of 24:20.6. Chada was tied for fifth with his teammate Isaac Harding at the two mile marker, but made up ground during the final lap to clock in second overall behind MSU's Morgan Beadlescomb (24:15.8). Chada was the first division II athlete to cross the line, and has not competed in cross country since the 2019 championships. 


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Hannah Becker - Grand Valley State 

In her first cross country since 2018, junior Hannah Becker (Eleva, Wis.) was the first division II woman to cross the line at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing. She scored sixth with a time of 22:06.4. She finished behind runners from Michigan State, Toledo and Hope.
