GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its first weekly baseball awards of the 2023 baseball season. Davenport swept the awards with redshirt senior Khale Showers receiving GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors and sophomore Carson Fischer capturing pitcher of the week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Khale Showers, Davenport
Khale Showers, the transfer from Northwood, went 6-for-11 at the plate this weekend at Central Missouri. He hit his first home run as a Panther on Saturday and had one RBI in each game of the three-game series. In the first game of the series on Friday, Khale went 3-for-5 with two doubles. He is batting .292 this season and four of his seven hits have been for extra bases.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Carson Fisher, Davenport
Carson Fischer got win number one this season on Friday in a 5-4 decision over Central Missouri. He went six innings and allowed just one earned run. Fischer picked up his sixth career pitching win against a Central Missouri team that was ranked No. 13 in the Division II Preseason Poll.
