DU's Vallone and WSU's Korolden receive GLIAC baseball weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its ninth weekly baseball awards of the 2023 baseball season. Davenport senior outfielder Gaetano Vallone earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week accolades while Wayne State redshirt senior righthander Ryan Korolden received pitcher of the week honors.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gaetano Vallone, Davenport

Gaetano Vallone spearheaded a potent offense that averaged 11 runs per game in three wins over Purdue Northwest. The senior outfielder batted .643 going 9-for-14 at the plate. He scored seven runs and collected four doubles, two home runs, and a team-high eight RBI. He slugged 1.357 for the week and reached base at 68.4 percent. The highlighted game was in game two on Saturday going 4-for-5 in a 15-4 win. He scored three times and drove in a season-high four runs. He also had the first multi-HR game of his career.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Korolden, Wayne State

Ryan Korolden (Yale, Mich.) was named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season and third time in his career on Monday. The most-recent honor comes after Korolden made a pair of appearances last week including a scoreless 10th inning against Ashland on Tuesday and complete-game performance at Grand Valley State on Saturday. Overall, the right-hander threw eight innings and gave up one unearned run on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
