Grand Valley State, Ferris State and Davenport earn bids to NCAA Division II Football Championship

2022 NCAA Division II Football Championship bracket

GLIAC -- Grand Valley State, Ferris State and Davenport will represent the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in the 2022 NCAA Division II Football Championship, the NCAA Division II Football Committee announced during the selection show on Sunday evening.

Grand Valley State, the 2022 GLIAC champion, is the No. 1 seed in Super Region Three. GVSU will receive a first-round playoff bye and host a second-round matchup on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Lakers' Lubbers Stadium in Allendale.

Grand Valley State put together an undefeated regular season, posting a 11-0 record overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in GLIAC play. The Lakers, who are making their 21st appearance all-time in the NCAA playoffs, enter the postseason as the No. 1-ranked team in the nation.

Ferris State (9-1) earned a number two seed in NCAA DII Super Region Three and will host fellow GLIAC member Davenport (8-2) on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs, currently ranked sixth in the country, are the defending Division II national champions and are making their eighth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance. FSU's lone loss of the season was a one-point setback against rival Grand Valley State on Oct. 15.

Davenport, an at-large selection, is making its first-ever appearance in the postseason since joining the NCAA Division II ranks. The Panthers had a major turnaround from 3-8 last year to a school record eight wins and a third-place finish in the GLIAC. DU's only two losses of the season came against No. 1 Grand Valley State and No. 6 Ferris State.

The other half of the NCAA Super Region Three bracket features third-seeded Pittsburg State hosting Indianapolis this week with fourth-seeded Ouachita Baptist entertaining Northwest Missouri State in round one.

A total of 28 teams from the four super regions received NCAA Playoff berths.
