BAY CITY, Mich. -- Wayne State senior Mohamed Fazyl Kechai has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Highlights: Wayne State senior Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France) led the Warriors to two victories in the start of GLIAC play last weekend. WSU defeated Walsh, 7-2, on Saturday and topped Tiffin, 7-2, on Sunday. Kechai earned a two wins at No. 1 singles over the two matches. He beat the Cavaliers’ Ross Whittaker, 7-5, 6-3, and posted a victory over the Dragons’ Luis Ludena (6-3, 7-6).
The senior and his doubles partner, freshman Derek Sammons, earned the 8-4 win over Heitor Adegas and Jonah Carter on Saturday. The duo recorded a close 9-8(2) victory over Justin Korpronica and Elio Lezama Perez a day later. Both matches were played at the third doubles flight.
Kechai holds a 31-46 career singles record and has a 41-26 career doubles mark.
