WSU's Nadolny, SVSU's Mundy Earn Softball Weekly Awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its third weekly awards for the 2021 softball season. Wayne State Sophomore Brooke Nadolny received  Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley State sophomore  Julia Mundy earned Pitcher of the Week. 


PLAYER OF THE WEEK  - Brooke Nadolny, Wayne State

Nadolny has started 2021 with a six-game hitting streak, which includes two multiple-hit games. She is batting .450 (9-for-20) with a .900 slugging percentage as WSU has started 6-0. Nadolny has scored at least once in every game and has recorded three walks for a .522 on-base percentage. Five of her nine hits have been for extra bases (3 doubles and 2 home runs).  She leads the Warriors with six RBI and t18 total bases.  In the win over Tiffin, she started a two-out rally in the third with a single and scored to make it 2-0. She singled and scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first vs. Carlow. In the victory over Alderson Broaddus, she smacked a three-run home run in the top of the fifth snapping a 1-1 deadlock. She walked and scored in the first inning against Glenville State, then singled and scored in the fourth. In game one at Lake Erie, Nadolny hit a two-out, two-run HR in the top of the third to tie the game at 2-2. In the nightcap, she had an RBI double in the second to snap a 2-2 tie, then singled and scored in the sixth inning.

 


PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Julia Mundy, Saginaw Valley State

The Greencastle, Ind., native made two appearances over the weekend, including a complete-game shutout of Cedarville University. Mundy tossed all seven innings, scattering seven hits, walking two and striking out six. In the first game at the University of Findlay on Saturday, Mundy went 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run, while walking one and striking out six more batters. Mundy is the second Cardinal to win the weekly GLIAC honor this season, joining Sarah Gersch, who was named the Player of the Week on Feb. 23. The Cardinals open the 2021 GLIAC season at home with a doubleheader against Davenport University at 2:30 pm Tuesday at the SVSU Softball Complex. The game was moved from Wednesday due to forecasted inclement weather.
