GLIAC announces swimmers and divers of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its 10th weekly awards of the 2023-24 swimming & diving season. Two Wayne State men's student-athletes were honored, with Khalil Ben Ajmia earning swimmer of the week and Max Wasiniak receiving diver of the week. Two Grand Valley State women's student-athletes were also recognized, with Lucy Hedley (swimming) and Maddie Kooistra (diving) named as honorees. 


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Khalil Ben Ajmia, Wayne State

Khalil Ben Ajmia (Tunis, Tunisia) was named GLIAC Swimmer of the Week for the second time in his career on Tuesday. This past Saturday, Ben Ajmia won both the 500 free (4:37.01) and 1000 free (9:27.72) against No. 4-ranked Grand Valley State. The freshman also touched the wall fifth in the 50 free (21.71) and was part of Wayne State's third-place showing in the 400 free relay (3:10.62).

WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Lucy Hedley, Grand Valley State

Lucy Hedley hit the wall first in the 50 free (23.98), 100 free (53.26), 200 free (1:53.17) and swam the anchor leg of the Lakers’ first-place finishing 400 free relay team (3.33.69) as #6 Grand Valley State claimed a 190.5 – 109.5 GLIAC victory over Wayne State. Hedley has been named the GLIAC Swimmer of the Week five times this season.


MEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Max Wasiniak, Wayne State

Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) was named GLIAC Diver of the Week for the second time in his career on Tuesday. Against No. 4-ranked Grand Valley State this past Saturday, Wasiniak won the one-meter board (307.95) and placed in a tie-for-third at three meters (277.35).


WOMEN'S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Maddie Kooistra, Grand Valley State

Maddie Kooistra won both the 1-meter (283.20) and 3-meter (280.65) diving events en route to being named the GLIAC Women’s Diver of the Week for the sixth time this season.
