GLIAC announces outdoor track & field athletes of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its first weekly awards following the start of the 2023-24 outdoor track & field season. Grand Valley State swept the awards, with Caleb Futter (men's track), Klaudia O'Malley (women's track), Jaivon Harrison (men's field) and Margaret Stevenson (women's field) earning recognition.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Caleb Futter, Grand Valley State

Caleb Futter earns his first outdoor GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors after taking on the Raleigh Relays. Futter competed in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase, earning 15th place overall with a time of 8:46.58. Futter now ranks first in Division II in the steeplechase. 


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Klaudia O'Malley, Grand Valley State

Klaudia O’Malley earns her first outdoor GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors after competing at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina. O’Malley competed in the women’s 1500m and 800m last weekend, earning 32nd in the 1500m with a time of 4:22.39 and 44th in the 800m with a new personal-best time of 2:09.99. O’Malley now ranks first in Division II in the 1500m and 12th in the 800m. 


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Jaivon Harrison, Grand Valley State

Jaivon Harrison earns his first outdoor GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors after taking on the Texas Relays down in Austin, Texas. Harrison secured a second place finish in the men’s high jump, clearing a new personal-best of 2.26m. Harrison now holds the Grand Valley State record in the men’s outdoor high jump, is ranked first in Division II and tied for first in All-Collegiate. 


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Margaret Stevenson, Grand Valley State

Margaret Stevenson earns her first outdoor GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors after competing within two meets this past weekend, the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational. Stevenson competed in the shot put and discus throw at the Bobcat Invitational, earning second place in the discus with a new personal-best throw of 52.45m and eighth in the shot put with a distance of 12.99m. At the Texas Relays, Stevenson finished in second place in the discus with a throw of 51.87m. Stevenson now ranks first in Division II in the women’s discus.
