FSU's Blanchard, AU's Roshak Named Women's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its player of the week awards following week two of the women's basketball season. Ferris State freshman guard Kadyn Blanchard earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Ashland sophomore forward Annie Roshak captured South Division Player of the Week.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kadyn Blanchard - Ferris State

Ferris State University freshman guard Kadyn Blanchard continued an impressive start to her collegiate career by leading FSU to a weekend home split against Parkside. Blanchard averaged 32 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals in the two weekend games. She scored 25 points with five boards, five assists and two steals in Friday’s narrow 86-82 home setback to the Rangers before coming back with a game and career-high 39 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals in a near triple-double effort on Saturday as the Bulldogs won 91-89 behind one of the greatest performances in school history. Her showing in the finale included a perfect 15-of-15 effort from the free throw line and she went 20-of-20 (100%) at the stripe for the weekend. Overall, she shot 51.3% from the floor and 36.4% from three-point range in the two games. Her play on Saturday helped FSU rally from a 16-point deficit in the first half as the Bulldogs played without Preseason GLIAC Player of the Year Adrienne Anderson and two other key returnees on the weekend.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Annie Roshak  - Ashland

Sophomore forward Annie Roshak made an immediate impact on Ashland University’s women’s basketball team over the weekend in her 2020-21 debut.
Roshak’s gaudy statistics, despite two Eagle losses at Grand Valley State, earned her the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week award of her AU career on Tuesday (Jan. 19) morning. After missing the first two games of the new campaign due to injury, Roshak came off the bench on Saturday (Jan. 16) and made her first collegiate start on Sunday (Jan. 17). She scored a career-high 32 points on Saturday, going 10-of-19 from the floor, 3-of-4 from 3-point range and 9-of-9 from the free-throw line, and adding six rebounds, two blocks and four steals. On Sunday, Roshak went for 26 points, eight boards, two assists, two blocks and two steals, while making 10-of-19 from the field and 3-of-4 from downtown, and all three free throws. In 56 minutes on the floor over the weekend, Roshak ended with 58 points.
