NMU's Kuhn, WSU's George Named Women's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its player of the week awards following week three of the women's basketball season. Northern Michigan sophomore guard Makaylee Kuhn earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week, while Wayne State junior forward Grace George captured South Division Player of the Week honors.

NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Makaylee Kuhn - Northern Michigan

A native of Hilbert, Wisconsin, Makaylee Kuhn tallied 47 points on the weekend, leading her team to a series split with Ferris State University. The Wildcats’ leading scorer recorded 31 points on night one, scoring nearly half of her team’s 77 total points for the 77-61 final. In game two she was held to 16 points by the Bulldogs, a season-low for the sophomore guard, but rallied to lead her team back from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats fell just short to the GLIAC foe, 66-64.

SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Grace George  - Wayne State

Wayne State University junior forward Grace George averaged 26.0 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per contest as WSU split its home series vs. Northwood.  In Friday's victory, George had game-high totals of 30 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.  She scored a game-best 22 points in Saturday's setback, along with tying for team-high honors with three assists.  For the weekend, she shot 53 percent (19-of-36) from the floor, including 56 percent from three-point range (5-of-9).  She was also 9-of-12 (75 percent) from the charity stripe, while grabbing 17 rebounds, dishing out three assists and blocking three shots.
