NU's Piper and FSU's Mosallaei garner women's soccer POTW honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards after Week 2 of the 2021 women's soccer season. Northwood midfielder Jessica Piper earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Ferris State rookie Darya Mosallaei claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jessica Piper - Northwood

Senior Jessica Piper (Freeland, Mich.) scored three goals in two games last week, leading Northwood to victories over Tiffin and Ursuline. She scored two goals in Northwood's 4-1 win at Tiffin Friday afternoon before netting the opening goal in the Timberwolves 4-0 win at Ursuline. Piper netted the game-winner in both games. She currently leads the GLIAC in goals scored (5) and has scored the game-winner in three of the Timberwolves' four wins this season. Northwood's 4-0 start is the best for the program since 2002.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Darya Mosallaei - Ferris State

Ferris State University freshman goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Bulldogs to a regional road sweep over the weekend while stretching her shutout streak to three-straight contests. Mosallaei netted eight saves in the weekend of work in pitching a pair of shutouts, including six saves in an impressive 3-0 road triumph at Ashland on Friday night for the school's first win over the Eagles in Ohio since 2015. She also had two shutouts in Sunday's 5-0 victory at Walsh and played the entire 180 minutes in net for the Bulldogs, who have now won three consecutive contests with all three coming by shutout. She closed the weekend with a perfect 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals against average.
