GVSU's Reid and NMU's Thompson recognized as GLIAC women's soccer players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 10 action of the 2023 women's soccer season. Grand Valley State senior forward Taylor Reid was selected GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Northern Michigan redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jillian Thompson was honored as GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Taylor Reid, Grand Valley State

Senior forward Taylor Reid has been named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. Reid scored both goals in the 2-1 win against Davenport in the regular season finale. She notched her first game winning goal of the season and now has three goals on the year along with three assists for nine points. The Lakers have a rematch against Davenport in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals today (Nov. 6) at 5:00 PM at the GVSU Soccer Field.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jillian Thompson, Northern Michigan

Jillian Thompson earned her GLIAC-leading 12th win and shutout on Thursday in a 1-0 victory against Michigan Tech, helping guide the Wildcats to the GLIAC regular-season title for the first time in program history. The redshirt freshman posted the best game of her career, as she made a career-high seven saves in the match. Not only are her 12 shutouts leading the GLIAC, but the mark is T2 nationally across D2 women’s soccer, one behind the leader.
