BAY CITY, Mich. -- Grand Valley State sophomore Alexa Sweeney has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after the Lakers locked up the top seed in the upcoming GLIAC Women's Tennis Tournament.

Highlights: Sweeney recorded a 2-0 singles record from the No. 2 spot against Walsh and Ashland this past weekend. Sweeney downed Walsh's No. 2 Daria Bondareva 6-1, 6-0 before defeating Ashland's No. 2 Andrea Ruiz 6-0, 6-1. Sweeney also went 2-0 with Madison Ballard at the No. 2 doubles position to help the Lakers clinch the top-seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament. Sweeney is 9-1 in GLIAC singles matches and 8-2 in doubles. |
