GLIAC teams and Individuals headed to NCAA Cross Country Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Committee has announced the participants for the 2023 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held last weekend.

The Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State men’s and women’s teams received invitations while the Wayne State's women’s team earned an at-large bid. Ransom Allen (Wayne State), Katja Baeuerle (Parkside), and Madi Szymanski (Northern Michigan) will race as individuals in the championships.

Grand Valley captured the men's and women's team crowns at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet last weekend with scores of 48 and 28, respectively. Wayne State’s women’s team raced to a second place finish with a score of 136 while Saginaw Valley State's women’s team finished third with 169 points. Saginaw Valley State's men's team placed second in their race with 112 points.

Grand Valley State captured both men’s and women’s conference titles at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships in October, with the women posting a perfect score of 15. Saginaw Valley State followed GVSU in the conference tournament finishing second in the men’s race and third in the women’s. Wayne State’s women’s team finished second overall.

The NCAA Division Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Mo.
