GVSU men and women capture NCAA Midwest Region cross country team titles; WSU's Ransom Allen wins individual crown

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Grand Valley State men’s and women’s cross country teams took home titles at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional meet on Saturday, Nov. 4 while Ransom Allen of Wayne State captured the individual championship in the men’s race.

Grand Valley State utilized pack running during both competitions with the men and women scoring 48 and 28, respectively. Grand Valley State sported four of the top ten places in the men’s race and six of the top ten in the women’s.

Allen took the crown with a time of 30:37.99, finishing nine seconds ahead of second place.ff

The Saginaw Valley State men's team also qualified for the national championships, placing third.

In the men’s race, Saginaw Valley State's Thomas Hufton III placed fourth. Behind Hufton, came the Grand Valley State quartet of Brock Wooderson, Cal Yackin, Koby Fraaza, and Caleb Futter in places sixth through ninth, respectively.

In the women's competition, Grand Valley State captured places third through fifth with the trio of Natalie Garber, Klaudia O’Malley, and Anastasia Tucker. They were followed by Parkside’s Katja Baeuerle in sixth and senior teammate Kayce Rypma in seventh. Abby Vanderkooi and Allie Arnsman from Grand Valley State rounded out the top ten.
