GLIAC announces outdoor track & field athletes of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth weekly awards of the 2023 outdoor track & field season. Grand Valley State freshman Fallou Gaye (men's track), junior Klaudia O'Malley (women's track) and sophomore James MacKey Jr. (men's field) were honored in addition to Saginaw Valley State junior Cheyenne Williamson (women's field). 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Fallou Gaye, Grand Valley State

Fallou Gaye earns his first GLIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week this season after competing at the Gibson Invitational last weekend. Gaye placed first in the men's 400m hurdles with a new personal-best time of 50.95, ranking him first in the Division II Midwest Region and fourth in the Nation (Division II). In addition, Gaye was apart of the men's 4x400m relay squad who took home a first-place finish with a new meet record and personal-best time of 3:11.11. This squad currently holds the top ranking in the Midwest Region.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Klaudia O'Malley, Grand Valley State

Klaudia O'Malley claims her first GLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors in the 2023 outdoor season after her weekend in Azusa, California at the Bryan Clay Invitational. O'Malley placed second in the women's 5000m invite with a new personal-best time of 16:07.63, cutting off seven seconds from her previous time. O'Malley currently ranks first in the Midwest Region and second in the Nation (Division II).


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - James MacKey Jr., Grand Valley State

James MacKey Jr. earns his first GLIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor as a Laker after competing at the Gibson Invitational last weekend. MacKey placed third in the men's discus throw with a new personal-best of 53.66m. MacKey currently ranks second in the Midwest Region and sixth in the Nation (Division II).


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Cheyenne Williamson, Saginaw Valley State

Cheyenne Williamson was named GLIAC Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in the 2023 outdoor track season. The two-time national champion competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California in the heptathlon for the first time since last year's outdoor national championship. Williamson hit an NCAA Division II provisional scoring 5595 points ranking her third in the country on the USTFCCCA National List (Division II).
