GVSU's Coble, NMU's Yaggie receive GLIAC golfer of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its first weekly men's and women's golf awards of the 2024 spring season. Grand Valley State senior Drew Coble was named GLIAC Men's Golfer of the Week, while Northern Michigan senior Alyssa Yaggie was selected as GLIAC Women's Golfer of the Week.


MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Drew Coble, Grand Valley State

Following the Lakers opening week of the spring season, senior Drew Coble has been named the GLIAC Golfer of the Week. Coble won the Lander Bearcat Classic and then won both his matches against North Georgia in their match play event. To begin the week, Coble carded rounds of 67, 69, and 67 to finish at -13. He made 14 birdies over the three rounds to help the Lakers come back and win the tournament as a team. Then on Friday, the Lakers took on top-ranked North Georgia in match play. The teams played two rounds, and Coble won both of his, shooting rounds of 71 and 72 to help GVSU beat the Nighthawks in a tiebreaker.


WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Alyssa Yaggie, Northern Michigan

Alyssa Yaggie led the ‘Cats to a second-place finish this weekend at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, shooting rounds of 73 and 74 to finish +3, second individually among 61 athletes. Over the weekend in North Carolina, Yaggie was T2 in par 3 scoring, T4 in par 4 scoring, and first in par 5 scoring over 36 holes, including four birdies and the second-most pars among the field. Yaggie’s 147 is the best 36 holes of her collegiate career, and is good for T5 in NMU women’s golf history.
