United Soccer Coaches Announce Scholar All-Region & All-American Teams; GVSU's Steinwascher Named Scholar Player of the Year

UNITED SOCCER COACHES - A pair from Grand Valley State and a member from Ferris State represented the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) on the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Women's NCAA Division II Scholar All-American Team, highlighted by Cecilia Steinwascher's being named Scholar Player of the year as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Association on Wednesday (Dec. 18).

Grand Valley State junior Defender Steinwascher was selected First team, while junior teammate Sydney O'Donnell was named to the Second-team following their National Championship run. Ferris State's Brianne Rogers was named to the Scholar All-American team for the second time in her career and was selected, Third team.

A total of six GLIAC women's soccer student-athletes earned recognition on the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-North/Central Region Team as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Association.

Grand Valley State led the conference with three selections, while Ashland and Ferris State recorded one recipient each.

To be eligible for Scholar recognition, student-athletes must meet the following criteria:

  • 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
  • Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
  • Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution
  • Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school

Student-athletes on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at the Baltimore Convention Center in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention
