MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Mike Rose as Head Men's & Women's Tennis coach.

He replaces Zane Colestock, who recently retired after 46 years at Northwood.

"Mike has done a phenomenal job as assistant coach this past year, demonstrating he is ready to take over as head coach," said Dave Marsh, Northwood Athletic Director. "He is highly respected by the student-athletes and in the community.  Mike obviously has huge shoes to fill with the retirement of Zane Colestock, but he is ready and has the full endorsement of Zane."

Rose has been involved with tennis in the Midland community for the last five years. He worked as the director of adult tennis at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. Rose has various professional tennis registry certifications and started as a tennis professional in 2005.

A 2007 graduate of Aquinas, Rose was a standout for the Saints on the tennis court. A two-year captain for Aquinas, Rose was a two-time All-American and the NAIA Senior Player of the Year. His father Steve is currently an assistant coach at Aquinas.

"I would like to thank everyone that has been involved in giving me this opportunity, from President Kent MacDonald, Athletic Director Dave Marsh and especially Zane Colestock," said Rose. "Northwood's tennis program has an amazing reputation, not only in the state, but the conference, region and the country. Coach Colestock has been the center of this program for over 40 years and I have had the honor of working with him over the last couple of months.

"He is a legend in the college tennis community and Northwood. It is awfully difficult to take the place of someone like Zane, but I am going to do my best. We have two very talented teams returning to compete for Championships next year. I intend on working my hardest to make sure that all of the players are prepared to represent Northwood the best way they can."

Rose lives in Midland with his wife, Shannon.
