LSSU's Collins, SVSU's Belyeu Named Men's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week five of the 2019-20 men's basketball season. Lake Superior St. senior forward Ke'Montrece Collins earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley St. sophomore guard Myles Belyeu was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ke’Montrece Collins - Lake Superior State

Senior forward Ke’Montrece Collins led the Lakers to a pair of conference wins at home this weekend over No. 10 Ashland University and Wayne State. Collins posted a career best 29 points in Lake State’s 99-69 upset against the Eagles to secure the Lakers first conference win of the season. The Toledo, Ohio native would record 20 points in Saturday’s 67-63 win over Wayne State to give the Lakers a weekend GLIAC sweep. In the pair of games, Collins converted on 50.8 percent of his shots from the field and 49.3 percent of his three point attempts. The Criminal Justice major totaled 19 rebounds this weekend, including 15 in the victory over Wayne State. This season, Collins leads the Lakers in scoring as he averages 17.5 points per game, which is eighth among all GLIAC players. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Myles Belyeu - Saginaw Valley State

Sophomore guard Myles Belyeu had a big performance for the Cardinals in the opening weekend of GLIAC action in the Upper Peninsula. Belyeu had his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in Thursday's loss at Michigan Tech before going for a season-high 28 points with five boards in leading SVSU to a 64-58 win at Northern Michigan on Saturday. Myles leads Saginaw Valley and is fourth in the league this season so far with a 19.1 ppg average.
