MTU's Monroe, SVSU's Belyeu Selected Men's Basketball Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following week eight of the 2019-20 men's basketball season. For the second consecutive week, Michigan Tech senior forward Kyle Monroe earned GLIAC Men's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Saginaw Valley St. sophomore guard Myles Belyeu was named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for the second time this season.


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kyle Monroe - Michigan Tech

Kyle Monroe had another big week for the Huskies, leading the team to two more key GLIAC wins over Wayne State and Ashland University. Monroe averaged 29.5 points per game and poured in a season high 35 points against Wayne State before following that up with 24 points in the win over Ashland. Monroe became the second all-time leading scorer in Tech history over the weekend and now has 2,108 career points. In addition to his scoring numbers, Monroe averaged 7.5 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists in the two victories. Monroe paces the Huskies in scoring and rebounding this season with a 21.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game average. 


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Myles Belyeu - Saginaw Valley St.

Sophomore guard Myles Belyeu had a pair of big games in leading the Cardinals to a 2-0 record in GLIAC play over the weekend. Myles tied his then career-high on Thursday with 32 points versus Purdue Northwest, adding eight rebounds with two steals and a block. He then topped that with a new career-best 33 points with three boards, a steal and block in Saturday's road victory at Parkside. Belyeu is currently second in the league with his 20.1 ppg average.
