NMU's Scheibal, SVSU's Walker Earn GLIAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth week of the spring 2021 Men's Soccer season. Northern Michigan freshman Niko Scheibal earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Saginaw Valley St. junior Brady Walker claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Niko Scheibal, Northern Michigan

The freshman, in a game where the teams battled 30mph winds coming out of the Northwest, collected his first goal in a Wildcat kit on Sunday. The centerback from Minnetonka, Minn. scored his goal in the 54th minute over the then 3-0 Purdue Northwest team. Scheibal scored a header in the box after beating the GLIAC leading goalkeeper for the Pride, Raul Garrido. The ball came to him from his right from a crossing combination between Emanuele Ancione and Kaffie Kurz.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brady Walker, Saginaw Valley St. 

Brady Walker jumped up from his defensive position to score the game-winning goal in the 95th minute, securing the victory and keeping SVSU's record perfect for the season at 4-0-0. The No. 23 Cardinals are at the top of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings as the lone undefeated team. Walker, from Hartland, Mich., played a vital role in keeping the clean sheet for the Cardinals against Ashland and for his efforts, he has been named the latest GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
