AU's Pereira, UWP's Durand Earn GLIAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the spring 2021 Men's Soccer season. Ashland freshman Rafael Pereira earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Parkside junior goalkeeper Alexandre Durand claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rafael Pereira, Ashland

It is the first GLIAC weekly honor for Pereira and the second straight week an AU player has won GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after Haruki Kimura won the award on April 13. Pereira excelled in his role on the left wing in the Eagles' 4-0 rout of Davenport in Sunday's regular season finale. He assisted on the Eagles' opening goal, sending in a pacey low cross that center back Joseph Renner slid into the back of the net in the 21st minute. Pereira was solely responsible for the Eagles' third goal. With his first effort on goal from 28 yards blocked back into his path, he struck again, this time firing into the back of the net.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alexandre Durand, Parkside

Parkside goalkeeper Alexandre Durand has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for week six. Durand started two games for the Rangers in goal last week, accumulated nine saves, and allowed only one goal. Parkside has now won five straight games since starting the year 0-2, and Durand has started in goal for four of those wins. In those four games, the Rangers outscored opponents 9-2.
