NMU's Schultz, AU's Johnson Named Women's Basketball  Players of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly awards following the 12th week of the 2019-20 season. Northern Michigan senior forward Jessica Schultz earned GLIAC Women's Basketball North Division Player of the Week honors, while Ashland senior guard Jodi Johnson captured South Division Player of the Week.

 


NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jessica Schultz - Northern Michigan 

Jessica Schultz set a new career-high with 26 points in the Wildcats' 71-66 victory over Saginaw Valley State University, Thursday night, before adding another 20 points to her weekend total in the team's close loss at Northwood, Saturday. On top of her team-best 20 points, Schultz added 14 rebounds to the box score on Saturday for the double-double.  She finished with 46 points, 18 rebounds and eight blocks over the two game road trip.


SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jodi Johnson - Ashland

As announced by the GLIAC on Monday (Feb. 3) afternoon, Johnson once again is the GLIAC South Player of the Week following her efforts during two home wins against Ferris State on Thursday (Jan. 30) and Lake Superior State on Saturday (Feb. 1). On the week, Johnson averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, while shooting 52.4 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from 3-point range, and making all 10 free throws.

In No. 2-ranked Ashland’s 105-74 win over the Bulldogs on Thursday at Kates Gymnasium, Johnson became the fourth player in program history to score 2,000 career points. In the Eagles’ 99-34 rout of the Lakers on Saturday at home, she moved into third place on Ashland’s all-time scoring list with 2,026 career points.
