NEW ORLEANS (MEN) – Just one week after their three-time defending national champion female teammates lost their No. 1 rank in NCAA Division II cross country, the Grand Valley State men have ascended to the top of the National Coaches' Poll released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Though the Lakers were idle this past weekend, their win at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational two weekends ago combined with former No. 1 Adams State's ninth-place showing in the Roy Griak Invitational's Division I race was enough to push them to No. 1 for just the second time in program history. They garnered six of the eight first-place votes.

GVSU was also ranked No. 1 entering last year's NCAA Championships before finishing runner-up for the second consecutive year to Adams State.

NEW ORLEANS (WOMEN) – Hillsdale's women may have only taken over the NCAA Division II National Coaches' Poll just a week ago, but already the Chargers are fending off their first challengers in the week three edition of the poll announced Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The idle Chargers lost two of their first-place votes to new No. 2 Adams State, which is coming off a strong showing in the Division I section of the Roy Griak Invitational. So good, in fact, that the Grizzlies passed up three-time defending national team champion Grand Valley State. The Lakers slipped to No. 3.

Like Hillsdale, Grand Valley State was also idle this weekend as it slipped to its lowest rank since 2012. The Lakers were ranked No. 3 throughout the entire regular season before winning their first of what has become three consecutive national titles.

This weekend will be an opportunity for either Hillsdale to re-assert itself as the No. 1 team or GVSU to potentially reclaim the top spot as both squads will meet up at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.
