SVSU's Monney and Parkside's Bruer-Schmadalla named men's soccer players of the week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2022 men's soccer season. Saginaw Valley State sophomore forward Jonathan Monney earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Parkside senior defender Henry Bruer-Schmadalla claimed GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jonathan Monney, Saginaw Valley State

Jonathan Monney led the Cardinal offense with two goals, including one against Tiffin University in a 3-0 win on Friday. Monney added his fifth goal of the season in a 3-3 tie against rival Northwood University on Sunday. Monney recorded nine total shots in the two games, including six against Northwood. The Cardinals are 3-0-1 heading into GLIAC play starting this week.   


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Henry Bruer-Schmadalla, Parkside

Henry Bruer-Schmadalla played a crucial role in the Rangers shutout win over Missouri-St. Louis on Friday. The Stuttgart, Germany native played 87 minutes and made several crucial defensive plays to limit shot opportunities for the Tritons. The reigning GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year has played a pivotal role in a back line that has allowed only two goals in their first four games. The Rangers will open GLIAC play on Friday, Sept. 9 as they host St. Cloud State at Wood Road Field.
