GLIAC Announces Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its fourth weekly awards of the 2021-22 indoor track and field season. Saginaw Valley State swept the track awards with CarLee Stimpfel and Alona Olshevska earning the honors while Grand Valley State claimed the field awards with Eli Kosiba and Judith Essemiah receiving recognition. 


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - CarLee Stimpfel, Saginaw Valley State

At the annual Jet's Pizza Invitational last weekend at the SVSU Fieldhouse, senior CarLee Stimpfel (Cass City, Mich.) took first in the men's 3000-meter run with a time of 8:07.05 (NCAA P), winning the race by seven seconds. He is currently ranked seventh in NCAA DII in the event.


WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK -  Alona Olshevka, Saginaw Valley State

At the annual Jet's Pizza Invitational last weekend at the SVSU Fieldhouse, senior Alona Olshevska (Wayne, Mich.) swept the women's 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, as she ran 24.67 (NCAA P) and 55.57 (NCAA P) seconds. The senior currently ranks seventh in NCAA Division II in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 400-meter dash. 

MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Eli Kosiba, Grand Valley State

Eli Kosiba (Renseelaer, Ind.) cleared a personal-best height of 2.15m in the men's high jump at the Bill Clinger Class on Friday, Jan. 28. Kosiba was the only athlete to clear over 2.10m at the meet, and is now ranked second in the division and second in GVSU history. 


WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Judith Essemiah, Grand Valley State

Judith Essemiah (Amsterdam, Netherlands) broke the 20m barrier on Friday throwing a personal-best distance of 20.43m in the women's weight throw. Essemiah's stellar performance moved her up to first in Division II, as only two women in the division have thrown past 20m.
