GVSU Lacrosse Closes Out Season with a Win Over Notre Dame College

LYNDHURST, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team closed out its inaugural season with a 14-11 victory at Notre Dame College on Friday evening at Korb Field.

GVSU ends its season with a 10-7 mark in its first season of competition, while Notre Dame falls to 6-10.

Despite only scoring two goals in the second half of the game, the Lakers jumped to a 12-7 halftime lead and never looked back to end its season on a two-game winning streak.

Freshmen Rachel Leibovitz (Naperville, Ill.) and Brooke Ingraham (Rochester Hills, Mich.) each tallied four goals for GVSU, while junior Allyson Fritts (Howell, Mich.) had three goals and one assist. Freshman Sarah Lowe (Okemos, Mich.) had four helpers in the game.

Notre Dame netted the first goal of the game, but the Lakers responded with a 6-1 run started by back-to-back goals by Ingraham to lead 6-2 with 15:26 on the clock. The Falcons then tallied three straight to close the gap, 6-5.

GVSU then pushed its lead to 12-6 with another 6-1 run started by three straight tallies from Leibovitz. Notre Dame tallied one more goal with four seconds left for the 12-7 halftime score.

The Falcons came out of the half with four straight goals to pull within one, 12-11, with 22:01 left in the game, but the Lakers' extended its lead with two more tallies to get the win.

Grand Valley State held a light edge in shots, 29-22, while also picking up 12 ground balls to Notre Dame's six.  The Falcons had a 17-10 margin in draw controls.

Freshman keeper Audrey Kobe (New Hudson, Mich.) made six saves on the night, while Notre Dame had Kelsey Harvey and Amanda Mutsik split time in goal, tallying three and six saves, respectively.

Kelly Mathewman led Notre Dame in scoring with four goals and one assist, while Kristen Hull had three goals and two assists.
