SVSU's Lopez, FSU's Meiste Earn GLIAC Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth weekend of the 2021 spring Women's Soccer season. Saginaw Valley St. senior Andrea Lopez was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Ferris State senior Defender Taryn Meiste was awarded Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrea Lopez - Saginaw Valley State

Against Parkside, Lopez, a senior, recorded her first assist of the season on the opening goal of the game. The native of Barcelona, Spain finished with a goal and an assist in the win over the Pride, as the Cardinals sent a flurry of second-half goals into the net to earn the win.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Taryn Meiste - Ferris State

erris State University junior goalkeeper Taryn Meiste led the nationally 16th-ranked Bulldogs to an unbeaten 1-0-1 mark in Michigan's Upper Peninsula this past weekend. Meiste did not allow a goal on the weekend and posted her fourth and fifth shutouts of the year on the trip. She totaled five saves and stretched her shutout streak to three-straight games. No one has scored on her in the last 315 minutes this year and the two weekend shutouts now give her eight for her career, which is good for fourth all-time in Bulldog history. Her play helped FSU finish with a 0-0 overtime deadlock against Northern Michigan on Friday at the Superior Dome before a late Bulldog goal helped Ferris State prevail 1-0 over Michigan Tech on Sunday, keeping the squad atop the GLIAC standings.
