GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its third weekly awards of the 2022-23 indoor track & field season. Grand Valley State athletes swept the awards with Scott Spaanstra (men's track), Taryn Chapko (women's track), Myles Kerner (men's field) and Alaine Omonode (women's field) earning honors.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Scott Spaanstra, Grand Valley State
Junior Scott Spaanstra claimed his first GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors this season after competing for the Lakers at the Meyo Notre Dame Invitational this past weekend. Spaanstra led the Lakers on the track in the 800m finishing fourth overall with a time of 1:50.08, shortly behind Louisville (1:49.97).
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Taryn Chapko, Grand Valley State
Taryn Chapko now claims her second GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week honors in the 2022-2023 track and field season after competing at the Meyo Notre Dame Invitational this past weekend. Chapko competed for the Lakers in the women’s 800m, recording a sixth place finish with a time of 2:07.89. Chapko now ranks first on the National Leaders list in the 800m.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Myles Kerner, Grand Valley State
Myles Kerner received his first GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors this weekend after competing at the Meyo Notre Dame Invitational. Kerner finished fourth in the men’s shot put leading the Laker’s throws team with a distance of 18.67m, ranking him third on the Nationals Leaders lists.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Alaina Omonode, Grand Valley State
Junior Alaina Omonode earned her first GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors after competing in the GVSU Snowdown Showdown this weekend. Omonode led the women’s throws team on Friday after placing first in the women’s weight throw with a distance of 18.84m, surpassing the provisional mark as well as moving her up on the National Leaders list.
